An Apology for the Course & Outcome of Certain Events...
An Apology for the Course and Outcome of Certain Events Delivered by Doctor John Faustus on This His Final Evening
The hour has come. The 24 years of omnipotence for which Dr. John Faustus traded his soul to the devil are about to expire, and the damned doctor realizes he never kept a proper record of his fantastic, possibly tragical life. So, for his last request, he has ordered his servant Mephistopheles to summon an audience.
Drunk, desperate, and gigantically annoyed, Faustus wants nothing more than to apologize for leaving the writing of his life up to long-winded hacks. To explain why he failed to record the story of his soul. And maybe, with just one hour remaining, to leave the audience with some small account of his uniquely wonderful — and immeasurably evil — life. If such an account even matters.
It has to matter. To someone.
Anyone...
