Tender Reichian Doors (3 plays)
Rick Paul – Wilhelm Reich being Watched
Wilhelm Reich’s adventures with Aliens. Performed by Mike McKune.
Cecilie Keenan – The Door Appreciation Society
The Door Appreciation Society grew from a fascination with doors and portals. The first, probably, being the door in the Twilight Zone Series. While seeking to find others with the same fascination, no one could definitively say why they were attracted to doors but most everyone said they were. I looked at hidden doors of the mind and the spirit to try and piece together my own narrative to see if I can explain the importance of doors both real ones and those that are all around us.
Wendy Jo Carlton - The Trouble with Tenders
The Trouble with Tenders follows Elena, a breast cancer survivor obsessed with perfect chicken tenders and getting her sense of taste back after a double mastectomy, whose girlfriend Maya dismisses her experiences as delusions. Through a surreal encounter with her surgeon who presents a jar containing her toy-truck-tumor, and a hooded stranger asking for a tire pump, Elena realizes she's been suppressing her need for pleasure and humor in her relationship. Using dark comedy and magical realism, the play explores why Elena nervously but decisively breaks up with Maya to pursue romance with Chaz, a therapy cat puppet who believes in all of her dark magic.
